Summer 2001

Wazzu

The band began as Wazzu in summer 2001, recording the six-song Wokka Wokka Demo and handing out CDs to friends.

How We Became Wazzu

After the rather unceremonious departure of our fourth member, Justin, All Talk became a three-piece and needed a new name.

We had just finished recording our first demo at Killin’ Time Rehearsal Studio in Keansburg, New Jersey, and were hanging out at Peter’s house, transferring the cassette onto his parents’ PC using an old boombox and an auxiliary cable. This was cutting-edge home recording technology in 2001.

At some point, Peter’s dad walked into the room and said something along the lines of “up the Wazzu.”

Naturally, three middle school kids thought this was hilarious. We decided that whatever Peter’s dad had just said was going to be our new band name. And just like that, All Talk became Wazzu.

Peter also came up with the title for our first demo, Wokka Wokka, inspired by Fozzie Bear’s famous catchphrase from The Muppets.

So our first proper demo ended up with a band name inspired by something Peter’s dad said and an album title borrowed from a Muppet. Somehow, it all made perfect sense at the time.

About the recording & credits

Recorded live as a band at Killin’ Time Rehearsal Studio in Keansburg, New Jersey. The room had microphones feeding a cassette deck so bands could listen back to rehearsals; like other local bands, we used the inexpensive setup to make a demo. We digitized the cassette onto a PC using an old boombox and auxiliary cable.

I’m stuck in this neverending dream Why do I have to go on this way --------------------------------------------------- I’m down at the corner now Wishing I was with you, maybe I should just forget About you and me and what we had And everything we’ve ever done Then maybe we’ll meet again someday I hope this love doesn’t go away So now I’m saying goodbye ‘Cause I know you’re seeing another guy --------------------------------------------------- Repeat Chorus: --------------------------------------------------- Break: Instrumental --------------------------------------------------- Repeat Chorus:
